Homo Erectus
Upright man. He was no more than a walking organism. He roamed the land in constant search of what to fill his tummy. To eat… to rest… to eat again. Or, to live another day, to propagate and no more.
He lived for himself or for those directly linked to him. He lived to feed or to be feed upon. He must have behaved no different from animals like pigs or chickens today.
[Like pigs, there were times that man needed to balance litters between sows. Piglets that were given to a foster sow had to be drenched with her urine or feces or else she’ll kill them if she smelled they were not hers. Chickens and others like dogs behave the same.]
Homo erectus gave rise to Sapiens. Homo sapiens are thinking creatures. They have developed Social culture. And this culture is a shift away from animal behaviors- character of Erectus. (See the National Geographic society for more of him.)
But Erectus – are they really extinct?
Homo erectus [hṓmō i réktəss] noun [From modern Latin, literally ‘upright man’]
Extinct ancestor of Homo sapiens: an extinct ancestor of the modern human being (Homo sapiens) living approximately 1.5 million years ago and known by fossils to have had an upright stature, a smallish brain, and a low forehead/Microsoft Encarta Premium Suite
Homo erectus is very much around today, not really far different from how he was yesterday except probably for some changes to his physiques and his clout. Homo Sapiens has a long way to go to break free of him and totally diminish him to his past.
